Paving the way for the next 100 years

Over the past century, Urology at Michigan has been at the forefront of the field, making groundbreaking discoveries and training the leaders of tomorrow. Few departments of urology around the country share our rich history and tradition of excellence.

Today, ranked among the nation’s top programs, the Michigan Medicine Department of Urology is home to a large group of physicians and scientists across an array of disciplines who are committed to one vision: eliminating suffering from urologic disease. Forever.

Looking ahead, our challenge is maintaining and building upon our solid foundation formed over the past century. Our centennial represents a tremendous opportunity to invest resources in programs and areas that will bring us closer to our vision. The nature and scale of the work we do ensures that investments made in Urology at Michigan Medicine will have an impact on patients in the region and around the world.

Philanthropic support will help us reach the following goals:

  • We seek endowed professorships to spark innovation and progress. Professorships are the backbone of our Department. These investments in talent provide our faculty with protected time to perform impactful research and mentor trainees, ensuring that we will lead today as well as tomorrow. Our Department, composed of over 50 faculty, is rapidly growing, and the need for additional professorships has never been greater.
  • We seek support to strengthen our unique, world-class resident education program to train the next generation of leaders in urology. The U-M urology residency program is one of the best in the nation. Our vision is to expand upon our foundation of clinical excellence by raising funds to support resident research opportunities, professional development programs, a comprehensive wellness program and international travel for scientific and clinical experiences. We are also intent on expanding Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives within our residency program.

  • We seek support for cutting-edge research that will accelerate discovery and improve patient care. Our investigative agenda spans a wide range of topics, from basic and translational science to clinical trials and health services research. Our departmental research portfolio is among the deepest in the country. Philanthropic support for scientific investigation will allow us to grow our impact and explore newer/higher risk projects that have high reward potential. The welfare of our patients as well as the future of urology depend upon it.
